The inaugural Agricultural Industry Forum 2020 held in Nairobi with calls on the national and county governments to significantly improve the business operating environment for the private sector. 350 delegates, who attended the Forum, discussed the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the agribusiness sector noting that the private sector was currently facing some constraints when dealing with the national and country governments.
The delegates called for the immediate finalization of the National Agricultural policy which has been in the works since 2013. Delegates noted that the lack of a clear national agriculture policy was negatively impacting the policy-making process at the County level. They also called for the revitalization of the cooperatives movement in Kenya noting the urgent need to finalize the development of the National Cooperatives Policy.
